Don’t Let Halloween Candy Spook You!
by Yvette Garfield

The holiday season is approaching at that means delicious, sweet treats will be everywhere. Here are some tips for how to make Halloween fun, delicious, and healthy.

SHARE THE SWEETS

When you return from trick-or-treating, have your kids set aside half (or more) of the candy for a local charity. By allowing your kids to select the charity or group will make them feel connected to who they are helping. This will reduce the sugar load around your home while teaching your children to give back.

TREATS ARE DESSERT

Explain that candy is to be enjoyed after eating a meal, not to snack on throughout the day.  Let the kids enjoy one or two candies after they finish their lunch or dinner.

COOK UP YOUR OWN WICKED CANDIES

Pick up some Halloween cookie cutters and shape your apples into witches, ghosts, and goblins. Let your kids dip the fruit into a caramel or chocolate sauce.  Dipped apple slices are a great way to get your kids eating fruit for their Halloween treat!
