Well, Check out What Xanthe’s doing with hers….
by Amanda van der Gulik
Have you seen the new fashion craze? The Rainbow Loom?
If not, in short, the Rainbow Loom is a special kind of loom that your child can use to make fancy arm bracelets and other cool creations out of tiny little plastic elastics.
My daughter, Xanthe, first saw her first Rainbow Loom bracelet about 6 months ago and she was hooked. A friend of hers showed her how she could make her own jewelry from the elastics and from that moment she was absolutely determined to get a loom of her own!
She talked about it non-stop and ended up getting the loom and bunch of the elastics for Christmas. So I figured she would create a ton of bracelets, get bored with it and move on…
Boy was I wrong! …and I’m so glad I was!
What happened was, my little girl decided that making bracelets just simply wouldn’t be enough to keep her active mind occupied. She wanted to see what else she could make with those tiny little elastics…so she started doing her own research. She went to YouTube and started studying all kinds of video demonstrations that showed her how to make cute little 3-D animals, people, Smurfs, purses, backpacks, baby bottles, and the list goes on and on…
What was even cooler was that she didn’t stop there.
Over the years she has been watching, very closely to everything I do. She sees how I create ‘how-to’ videos and put them on YouTube myself and then earn ad revenue by allowing Google to place ads on my videos while allowing my fans/followers to watch my videos for free.
Last summer, she and her little brother, Quinn, decided to join me on a special 90-Day Video Challenge, where we created a brand-new video every single day for 90 days. Each of us created a new video every single day. After 90 days we had a grand total of 270 videos on YouTube! I tell you…we had many days when we really did not want to continue with our challenge. We were tired, we wanted to give up…
But we didn’t! We kept each other motivated and inspired, especially on those harder days…and we ended up finishing the challenge. Wow! It felt amazing!
Well, after months of not creating videos anymore, both my kiddos have started to get the urge to make more again. Their minds have been spinning away with ideas. We had put ads on all of their videos too and over the past half year they have each earned a nice little ad revenue that has got their entrepreneurial spirits excited.
They can now see how much fun it is to do the effort one time, create the video, and get paid for it forever, with the ads.
So back to the loom…well, I’m pretty sure you can already guess what Xanthe’s new plan is…
Yup! She’s planning to create Rainbow Loom ‘how-to’ videos! She has now created so many cool new designs that she learned by watching others, that she now has enough of a foundation to know how to create her own new unique designs.
It makes me so proud to see her video business begin to take off and grow. Not bad for a girl just 12 years old, making her own money.
So why am I telling you about her newest venture?
I want to give you inspiration, give you some real life ideas to help you encourage your own child to get out there, find something they are passionate about, that others are also passionate about and find a fun way to earn their own money…thereby stopping them from using you like their very own personal bank machine!
I can’t wait to see what your child will come up with!
What’s the main key?
Have them figure out something that they can do just one time and get paid on forever!
Here’s to both your success and your child’s!
