Is your group looking for news ways to raise funds for school supplies, enrichment activities and perhaps even operational expenses? Just having returned from presenting at parent/teacher meetings in Florida, Tennessee, California and Texas, I had the opportunity to digest the diversity of offerings and talk with a number of parent groups about healthier options for raising funds.
Here is what parents and educators said:
1. They want kids to benefit from the fundraiser.
2. Aware of the growing obesity of today’s children, parents and educators increasingly seek to avoid fundraisers selling knick-knacks and sweets like cookie dough, donuts, and candy sales.
3. Time being at a premium, volunteers need a fundraiser to be simple to administer and easy to distribute the goods.
4. Cash being ever tight, associations raising funds don’t want to layout cash or get stuck with product they can’t sell. No minimum orders = no risk.
Here are some solutions offered:
1. Fun educational DVDs, CDs – At HealthRaiser, we strove to address these goals for parent educators with an easy fundraiser that gives back 40% of every sale of educational kids’ music dvds, ships directly, and requires no minimum orders.
2. Special events – Some associations collaborate to put on special events, like “carnival day” or a “health fair”, with games, food and family activities, for which admission tickets are sold to raise funds.
3. Recycling programs – Several organizations offer funds to groups for recycling ink cartridges, used clothes and plastic/glass containers. This year round activity.
