You remember the game “20 Questions,” don’t you? Well, here is a version of the game you can play with your college or university of choice. We came up with the following list of 20 questions that students should ask a representative at their college. These are important items that will be helpful to know before you step foot on campus as a freshman, so ask them now and be prepared for the fall!
• What additional expenses (outside of tuition and room & board) will I incur my first year on campus?
• What minors would best complement my major of choice?
• How accessible is public transportation? And, can I bring a car my first year?
• What are opportunities for internships and undergraduate research in my major?
• Do most students with my major graduate in four years?
• Where are students working after graduating with this major?
• What are the most popular clubs and organizations on campus?
• How easy is it to get a part-time job on campus? Do I need to qualify for work-study to be eligible for on-campus employment?
• Are there tutoring programs available? If so, in which academic areas?
• How are roommates chosen? How easy is it to switch roommates if we don’t get along?
• What are the deadlines for: housing application, tuition deposit, dropping a class, etc.?
• How do I choose my classes? Do I have an academic advisor to guide me?
• What percentage of students stay on campus on the weekends? Is the campus closed during all holiday breaks? Is it possible to stay in my dorm if I cannot go home at that time?
• How can I get involved in my campus community?
• What is the year-round climate like…how should I pack?
• What common mistakes do freshmen make in their first semester of classes?
• Do I need to maintain a certain GPA to keep my scholarships?
• What does campus security consist of?
• Are on-campus medical services available when I am sick or have an emergency?
• Are different churches easily accessible from campus?
