Researching specific College requirements.
by Betsy Sproger

Our next step was to look for any specific requirements for homeschoolers. But they didn't get in our way!
The college website will usually include any special requirements, if any, for homeschoolers, and many times it is just an interview. Some of our college choices, however, had a few additional requirements. This tended to be more common with our state colleges, than with our private colleges.
One of our state colleges required what they called "validation" for certain subjects. Please see the example below:
SAMPLE
College A - Homeschool Requirements :
Along with your Homeschool Transcript, validation is required for Math and Science at this state college. This can be accomplished through one of the following:
1. Take one of your math courses, and one of your science courses at a community college, as an AP course, OR
2. Take the ACT.
Either by taking a few community college classes, AP, or doing the ACT testing, the homeschool requirements for this state college could be met. We decided to take the ACT test, as we needed to do either the SAT or the ACT test anyway, for freshman admissions to a 4 year college.
Sometimes the ACT test is used for this validation, as in this case, and since we needed to do one of them anyway, we just did the ACT, and were covered!
...on a college visit.
We had no trouble with the validation that the state colleges required of us. And the private colleges that we applied to did not ask for extra validation,....one wanted an interview, which was no problem. Be encouraged!
After this research was done, we were ready to plot out a general plan for my teen's high school years. Click below to reach my next post in this series..
