I miss homeschooling my kiddos... :(
I was blessed with the opportunity to homeschool my two kiddos for over 12 years, this year marks their very first year ever in the public school system. It was definitely not an easy choice for me but they were curious and my time for their homeschooling had been drastically reduced over the past two years...so with much heaviness in my heart I decided to let them go and enjoy this new chapter in their lives.
I've always wanted my children to have the opportunity to experience as much as possible in life, and now that includes going to school. They've transitions well and are thoroughly enjoying their new daily routine. The wonderful thing about them going to school is knowing that they know that Mommy and Daddy don't care what grades they get, but more importantly what they get out of the experience itself.
And this new experience also brings along many fun new comments, such as my son, who the other day said to me, "Mommy, I know now why kids like weekends so much!" That made me smile.
So yes, I miss them terribly but I am happy for them knowing that they are enjoying it and that they are in it for the real reason, to learn, and to have fun, and to just soak up everything they can. That they won't have to stress about the things that most kids at school stress about because I was able to give them a solid foundation, most importantly in self-esteem that too often schooled children have a terrible time dealing with. It's hard to always be compared to your peers. One of the best things about homeschooling is that my kiddos were able to just be themselves, and love being themselves, and having no one to compare themselves to.
When we were still in the process of making our big decision my daughter made me a deal-breaker, when asked what she would love most about going to school, she replied with, "homework, cause then you'll still get to homeschool me!" :)
The biggest difference that I notice is that we now have a lot less time to do things together. That's what I want to share with you today...if you still have the luxury of homeschooling your own kiddo, I hope you will enjoy every single minute of it and make the most of it before it's over.
One of the coolest things we got to do when we had the time to be at home together each day, was the flexibility to adjust my kiddos education to reflect their own true gifts and desires, their natural talents and dreams. My daughter for example wanted to learn about money, she wanted to make her own money and she also wanted to show others how you can turn recycling into a fun family game.
I was able to take her desire and turn it into a business lesson, that taught her how to create passive recurring income while doing something she really loved and helping others at the same time. The result was the following video:
When you watch the video above, you'll see that Xanthe allowed Google to place ads on her video, so now if someone watches her video and they choose to click on one of the ads that Google puts on her video then she gets paid a small ad fee. It's not a lot of money, but she figured out that if she created enough videos and allowed them to do the same that she could slowly earn residual income. Do the work once, and get paid for it over and over again.
Currently she earns between $10-$15 per month from all her videos combined. That may not sound like much, but she no longer has to do any effort to make that money and that's the key!
So why am I sharing this with you?
Because if you have the luxury of homeschooling your child, you too can teach your child how they can use their own passions to create an income. What a wonderful lesson that is. Your child will not only get to create something fun, based on what they love to do. Xanthe made a board game, but your child could do anything...play a sport, where they show off a special skill and how to do it, or just show off something they made, like a short play or a song. The possibilities are endless.
Once the video is made, then you can have them upload their creation to YouTube and allow ads on their video so your child can start earning some of their own passive income.
Now how cool would that be?
Maybe by watching Xanthe, your own kiddo will get inspired!
Either way, no matter if you take her idea as an inspiration or not, be sure to enjoy every single moment of your homeschooling experience while you still can. Make the most of each day, they go by way too fast.
Here’s to your child’s success and homeschooling experience!
