Mother’s Day for Homeschool Moms
Congratulations! You’re a homeschool mom, and now it’s time to celebrate you. You are a wonder woman with responsibilities of dirty dishes, dirty diapers and educating your children.

As a homeschool mom of seventeen years, I understand the joys and challenges of teaching at home. It’s exciting to watch your children learn to read or understand the periodic table. However, there are many days filled with fear of failing your children, making sure their emotional needs are met while ignoring yours and trying to navigate through the stigma. I started teaching in 1990. We were the brave pioneers paving the way for future moms who want to teach at home. In some aspects homeschooling is easier and more accepted now.

Mother’s Day is a holiday that is meant to make us feel special and loved. Unfortunately, sometimes it makes us feel bad about ourselves, especially, when we compare ourselves to others. As a homeschool mom we are constantly giving of ourselves for the betterment of the family. It’s my wish that we could feel special about ourselves every day, not just on Mother’s Day.

Here are some suggestions to help you replenish yourself.

1.    Combine subjects so you can end your school day by 1:00. (There are many curriculums online and many are free.)

2.    Join a co-op so you can share the teaching responsibilities. There will be socialization for you and your children.

3.    Come to terms with how things are versus how you want them to be. It’s okay to have days where you don’t complete all the subjects you’ve prepared. You might have some bad school days every so often.

4.    Meditate/Pray

5.    Spend time in the sunshine.

6.    Exercise.

7.    When you’re feeling happy write a list of things you like to do and when your down pull out the list and do them.

8.    Listen to music.

So Happy Mother’s Day! Don’t forget to take care of yourself so you can take care of others. Never underestimate the value and long-term benefits you’re providing within the walls of your home. You can do this!
